Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 13, Verse 30

यदा भूतपृथग्भावमेकस्थमनुपश्यति । तत एव च विस्तारं ब्रह्म सम्पद्यते तदा

yadā bhūtapṛthagbhāvamekasthamanupaśyati | tata eva ca vistāraṃ brahma sampadyate tadā

Translation

When a man realises the whole variety of beings as resting in the One, and as an evolution from that (One) alone, then he becomes Brahman.

Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

When, in accordance with the teachings of the śāstra and of the teacher, he sees that all the various classes of beings abide in the One, in the Self, i.e., when he intuitively realises that all that we perceive is only the Self, and when he further sees that the origin, the evolution, of all is from that One, the Self — as stated in the passage "From the Self is life, from the Self is desire, from the Self is love, from the Self is ākāśa, from the Self is light, from the Self are waters, from the Self is manifestation and disappearance, from the Self is food" (Chhā. Up. 7.26.1) — then he becomes Brahman indeed.
