Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18, Verse 51

बुद्ध्या विशुद्धया युक्तो धृत्यात्मानं नियम्य च । शब्दादीन्विषयांस्त्यक्त्वा रागद्वेषौ व्युदस्य च

buddhyā viśuddhayā yukto dhṛtyātmānaṃ niyamya ca | śabdādīnviṣayāṃstyaktvā rāgadveṣau vyudasya ca

Translation

Endued with a pure reason, controlling the self with firmness, abandoning sound and other objects, and laying aside love and hatred;

Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

Pure: free from illusion (māyā), from doubt and misconception. Reason (buddhi): the determining faculty. The self: the aggregate of the body and the senses. Abandoning, etc.: all superfluous luxuries, all objects except those necessary for the bare maintenance of the body, and laying aside love and hatred even for those objects which appear necessary for the maintenance of the body.
