Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

These, My inferior Nature (Prakṛti) and My superior Nature (Prakṛti), matter (Kṣetra) and spirit (Kṣetrajña), are the womb of all creatures. Because My Prakṛti is the womb of all beings, I am the origin and the end of the whole universe. That is to say, through this twofold Prakṛti, I, the omniscient Īśvara, am the cause of the universe.
