बृहत्साम तथा साम्नां गायत्री छन्दसामहम् । मासानां मार्गशीर्षोऽहमृतूनां कुसुमाकरः
bṛhatsāma tathā sāmnāṃ gāyatrī chandasāmaham | māsānāṃ mārgaśīrṣo'hamṛtūnāṃ kusumākaraḥ
Translation
Of Sāmans also I am the Bṛhat-Sāman, of metres Gāyatrī am I, of months I am Mārgaśīrṣa, of seasons the flowery season.

Śaṅkarācārya's commentary
'Bṛhat-Sāman' is the chief of the Sāmans. Of the Ṛks, composed in Gāyatrī and other metres, I am the Gāyatrī Ṛk. The flowery season is what is called Vasanta, the spring.
