सद्भावे साधुभावे च सदित्येतत्प्रयुज्यते । प्रशस्ते कर्मणि तथा सच्छब्दः पार्थ युज्यते

sadbhāve sādhubhāve ca sadityetatprayujyate | praśaste karmaṇi tathā sacchabdaḥ pārtha yujyate

Translation

The word 'Sat' is used in the sense of reality and of goodness; and so also, O Pārtha, the word 'Sat' is used in the sense of an auspicious act.

In expressing the reality of an object which is unreal — as for example, the birth of a son who is unreal — and in expressing that a man is one of good conduct who is not so, this designation of the Brahman, viz., the word 'Sat,' is employed. It is also used with reference to the act of marriage and the like.
