देही नित्यमवध्योऽयं देहे सर्वस्य भारत । तस्मात्सर्वाणि भूतानि न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि

dehī nityamavadhyo'yaṃ dehe sarvasya bhārata | tasmātsarvāṇi bhūtāni na tvaṃ śocitumarhasi

Translation

He, the embodied (Self) in every one's body, can never be killed, O descendant of Bharata. Wherefore thou oughtst not to grieve about any creature.

Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

The embodied Self, dwelling in every body, can never be slain, since He is by His own nature indestructible. Therefore, regarding any creature — Bhīṣma and the rest — thou hast no occasion to grieve. With these words the Lord concludes the teaching of Self-knowledge proper, which began at ii.11.
