विहाय कामान्यः सर्वान्पुमांश्चरति निःस्पृहः । निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः स शान्तिमधिगच्छति

vihāya kāmānyaḥ sarvānpumāṃścarati niḥspṛhaḥ | nirmamo nirahaṅkāraḥ sa śāntimadhigacchati

Translation

That man attains peace, who, abandoning all desires, moves about without attachment, without selfishness, without vanity.

Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

That man attains peace who has abandoned all desires (kāmān sarvān vihāya) and moves through the world without longing (niḥspṛha), without the sense of "I" (nirahaṅkāra), without the sense of "mine" (nirmama). This is the inward renunciation that completes outward renunciation; it is the actual condition of the liberated sage.
