Śaṅkarācārya's commentary

This — the state just described — is the Brāhmic state (brāhmī sthiti): the state of one who abides in the Brahman, the Self. Attaining to it, none is again deluded by the false identification with body and senses. Remaining steady in this state even at the end of life (anta-kāle), at the hour of death, one attains the felicity of Brahman (brahma-nirvāṇam) — final liberation, in which the apparent individuality is wholly absorbed in the Brahman that is Bliss. With this verse — the cap of the chapter — the Lord concludes the teaching of Sāṅkhya wisdom that began at 2.11 and the teaching of Yoga wisdom that began at 2.39, showing that both paths converge in the one state of the liberated sage.
